We live in a fairly small town – about 50,000 people, it depends who you ask – and there are only 4 Western families in the town. We have wondered occasionally how the Moroccans distinguish between us. For instance, there is probably "the family with lots of children" (they have six!) and "the couple with the big house"… But we weren’t sure how they referred to us until the other day.
A (Western) friend of ours went to a shop that we go into fairly regularly and have bought a number of things from. As our friend was talking to the shop keeper, the man asked him if he knew us,
“You know, the big guy (add a pantomime) who lives above
the Hotel and his little wife (pantomime again!).”
Which describes us quite well. :)
